Now it's been more than a week since the acclaimed american composer Peter Lieberson passed away at the age of 64.
Well known for the famous Neruda Songs, Lieberson learnt harmony by listening to live Broadway shows and took influences from Schoenboerg and Stravinsky. Great inspiration came from his father'scompany’s recordings. (Goddard Lieberson, former president of Columbia records).
After recieving a doctorate at Brandeis University and teaching composition at Harvard University in the 1980’s, the composer from NY, became a great established artist. For example his works were performed by famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
Lieberson dedicated his entire life to the Neruda Song and Songs of Love and Sorrow. He was a believer of Tibetan Buddhism and this made a special role in his opera Ashoka’s Dream where his wife Lorraine had the leading part./Viktoria Colonna
